National Public Lands Day - UPPER Cold Spring Trail, 9/26/15

State Trails Day 2013, Jesusita and Tunnel Trails

The City and County of SB, USFS, along with groups such and Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers, Multiuse Trails Coalition, and SB Trails Council came out numbering around 30 in total to repair some of Santa Barbara's finest and most historic trails.  Tunnel and Jesusita Trails were targeted to repair damaged trail sections, cut brush, and open waterbars.

 

 

 

In addition to others working on Jesusita, a dedicated crew of six people hiked to the upper part of Tunnel Trail where no repairs had been done in several years.  The worst places were repaired and the crew did incredibly fine and fast work while hiking 4 miles round trip and gaining 1300 vertical feet to reach the work sites.

Upper Tunnel Trail has been damaged and dangerous in the section for years.  This neglected area is extremely narrow, often times with no visible trail at all and has a steep drop off of
several hundred feet.

National Public Lands Day 2012 A Success!

National Public Lands Day 2012 on Cold Spring Trail brought out an enthusiastic crowd ready to get dirty and make the trail better for all to enjoy.  Brush was trimmed back off the trail and water bars were opened up to prevent any further erosion from winter rains.  It was hot, it was dusty, but volunteers left knowing the trail was a much better place than it has been.  This event was sponsored by the USFS, City of SB, County of SB, along with REI, SB Mtn Bike Trail Volunteers, and the Multiuse Trails Coalition.

Jesusita/Rattlesnake Trail Clean-up A Success!

This past weekends trail repair project brought out 30+ people all eager to get our trails into tip top shape. After a quick introduction and description of the task at hand we split into two groups, one headed to Jesusita Trail and one over to Rattlesnake Canyon. The main objective on both trails was to repair damaged trail sections and improved water drainage. Special thanks to all that attended and an extra big thanks to the Santa Barbara Chicken Ranch for hooking all the workers up with grub at the end of the day. National Public Lands Day A Success!

About 30 people came out this past weekend to help bring Cold Spring Trail back to life. Work consisting of tread repair, brush work, and trail restoration was completed between Camino and Montecito Peak. One major reason for this work was when an injury occured due to dangerous trail condtions on the upper part of the trail. Several months ago, someone doing trail work left debris on the trail forcing users to create a secondary trail. Removing this secondary trail was one of the main objectives of the day.

Groups including ourselves, SBMTV, Bicicentro, Crahtac, SBTC, LPNF Engine 46, and others all participated in making the day a success. Work wrapped up by about 12:30 just as the temps began to rise and all the volunteers were met on Camino Cielo by a meal catered by the Santa Barbara Chicken Ranch. Thanks to the work done this past weekend, no one else will get injured on Cold Spring Trail from substandard trail conditions.

Elings Park Trail Prep

This past Wednesday, 4/29 Ed Brown set up the first Elings Park Trail Maintenance for the Bike Fest this June. About 10 people showed including members of the Multiuse Trails Coalition, SBMTV, SB Chicken Ranch, one hiker, and several other local cyclists. We worked on the section of trail typically overgrown by mustard and helped get the trail back into it's original condition. Hope our work helps all you riders out there enjoy Elings Trails and mark your calendar for 5/30 when another Elings Maintenance will take place.
